Folklore #151 Rituals & practice

Warm milk with spices, drunk before bed, sold as an Ayurvedic sleep ritual. The spices are traditional; the name is Instagram.

Ayurveda does prescribe warm spiced milk at night, usually with turmeric or nutmeg or ashwagandha, and the practice is old. Calling it moon milk is a recent rebrand and the Moon has nothing to do with the recipe. That does not make the drink worse, and warm milk before bed is one of the few folk sleep remedies with any plausible mechanism behind it.

Tradition: Ayurvedic practice; the name is modern · checked Sep 2026
