Fact #136
Missions
Charlie Duke put a photograph of his wife and two sons on the lunar surface at the end of Apollo 16 and took a picture of it lying in the dust.
The back was signed by all four of them. He has said since that he assumes it is gone — sealed in plastic, but exposed to 120°C days and a rain of ultraviolet, it will have long since faded to nothing. The picture he took of it survives, which is the whole thing in one sentence.
