Fact #143
Missions
An Israeli lander that crashed in 2019 was carrying an archive disc with thousands of dehydrated tardigrades stuck to it in resin.
Tardigrades survive vacuum and hard radiation when dried out, and can be revived years later — but only in water, which there is none of at the crash site. Laboratory shock tests since suggest they probably did not survive the impact speed anyway. The honest summary is that a few thousand very tough animals are almost certainly dead on the Moon.
