Ten days deleted from the calendar

Thursday 4 October 1582 was followed by Friday 15 October 1582 in Italy, Spain, Portugal and Poland, and the ten days between simply do not exist.

The Julian year ran about eleven minutes long, which had pushed Easter ten days out of step with the equinox in thirteen centuries. Teresa of Avila died on the night of the change and her death date is recorded as both 4 and 15 October, which is true and also, from her point of view, the same night.
