A body in the ice, 5,300 years old
Two hikers who thought they had found a dead climber had in fact found a man who died in the Alps around 3300 BC, with his axe, his bow and his last meal still inside him.
It took ten years for anyone to spot the flint arrowhead in his left shoulder, so for a decade the story was exposure rather than murder. He was found only because a Saharan dust fall had darkened the glacier that summer and melted it back further than usual.
