A night fought by firelight
The same day the camp fell, a hundred and fifty men held a mission station through the night, in the dark of the moon, by the light of their own burning hospital.
The attack began in the late afternoon and did not finish until dawn. There was no moon at all that night — it was new that morning, which is why the eclipse had happened — so the only light on the barricades came from the thatch going up.
