Folklore #144
Rituals & practice
Chandra Namaskar is a sequence of yoga postures built as a cooling counterpart to the sun salutation, done facing the Moon where that is practical.
It is much younger than it sounds. The sun salutation itself is early twentieth century, and the moon version is later again, assembled in the modern studio tradition; there is no medieval text behind it. What it does have is a coherent idea — the same shape, slowed down, with more side-bending and less heat.
