Rituals & practice
The shimmer in a moonstone is a real optical effect with a real name — adularescence — caused by light scattering between microscopic layers inside the feldspar.
Romans thought it was moonlight that had solidified, and in India it has long been considered a sacred stone associated with Chandra. Modern crystal practice assigns it intuition, new beginnings and the feminine, and pairs it with the new moon. The physics of the shimmer is genuinely lovely and requires no belief at all.
