Rituals & practice
In Vedic gemmology the Moon's stone is the pearl, worn in silver on the little finger, and it is prescribed rather than chosen.
The reasoning is straight sympathy: a pearl is round, white, cool and grows in water, and so is the Moon in the traditional scheme. Each of the nine grahas has its gem, and an astrologer's recommendation of a pearl is a statement about your chart rather than your taste. Natural pearls are formed by an oyster around an irritant, which the tradition rather likes.
