Folklore #206
Folklore & calendar
Magha Puja marks a full moon on which, tradition says, 1,250 of the Buddha's disciples turned up at the same place on the same day without anyone having arranged it.
All of them had been ordained by the Buddha himself and all were enlightened, and the coincidence is treated as the point of the story. It is kept in Thailand, Laos, Cambodia and Myanmar with candlelit processions three times around a temple, on the full moon of the third lunar month.
