Folklore #221
Folklore & calendar
When the Hebrew calendar adds its extra month, Purim goes into the second Adar — but a minor version, Purim Katan, is still marked in the first.
The reasoning is that a leap year should not leave a festival's usual date empty. It is a small piece of calendrical housekeeping that reveals how the system thinks: the date is not just a slot, it belongs to something, and if you duplicate the month you have to decide what happens to the day.
