Folklore #222
Folklore & calendar
Eastern and Western churches use the same rule — the first Sunday after the first full moon on or after the equinox — and still land on different dates most years.
The Orthodox calculation runs on the Julian calendar, now thirteen days adrift, and uses a different table for the equinox and the moon. The gap can be five weeks. Both sides are correctly applying a rule agreed in the fourth century; the disagreement is entirely about which arithmetic to apply it with.
