Folklore #226
Folklore & calendar
Tsagaan Sar, the White Moon, is the Mongolian lunar new year, and the greeting ritual is precisely choreographed by who is older.
The younger person supports the elder's forearms and asks whether they passed the winter well. Stacks of biscuits are built in odd-numbered layers. The date follows the Mongolian lunar calendar, which is related to the Tibetan one, so it usually but not always coincides with Losar and only sometimes with Chinese New Year.
