Folklore #074 Moon in the signs

The sixth mansion is Betelgeuse, its symbol is a teardrop and its deity is Rudra, the howler. It is the storm that clears the air.

Ardra means 'moist'. Its lord is Rahu. This is the mansion tradition treats as destruction that is not gratuitous — the thunderstorm, the grief that changes something. Betelgeuse is a dying red supergiant that dimmed dramatically in 2019 and had astronomers wondering, which is a coincidence the tradition would have enjoyed.

Tradition: Vedic astrology; nakshatra 6, sidereal Gemini 6°40'–20°00' · checked Sep 2026
