Shadow period
Also called retrograde shadow, pre-shadow, post-shadow
The stretch of zodiac a planet crosses three times: before its retrograde, during it, and again after.
The shadow begins when the planet first reaches the degree where it will later end its retrograde, and ends when it returns to the degree where the retrograde began. Modern astrologers treat the shadow as part of the retrograde story.
