The Moon has no global magnetic field today, but its oldest rocks are magnetised, so it used to have one.

Apollo samples carry a frozen-in record of a field comparable to Earth's, which means the Moon once had a churning molten core generating a dynamo. That died out over a billion years ago. The leftover patches of magnetised crust are strong enough to deflect solar wind in places.
