Columbus bullies an island with an almanac

Stranded in Jamaica and running out of food, Columbus opened his almanac, found a lunar eclipse due, and announced he would take the Moon away.

The Taíno had stopped feeding his crew. He warned them the Moon would rise angry and red, which it duly did, and the provisions resumed immediately. He then "restored" it at precisely the moment his hourglass said totality would end.
