An eclipse over the walls of Constantinople

A prophecy said the city would never fall while the Moon was waxing. Eight days before it fell, the Moon rose full and went into eclipse.

The defenders had held out for weeks. The lunar eclipse, followed by an unseasonal fog, was read as the city's protection being withdrawn, and morale broke well before the walls did.
