St Crispin's Day, in November
Henry V's army, outnumbered and dysentery-ridden, fought in a ploughed field between two woods that had been rained on all night, and won.
The narrow front and the mud did most of the work; French men-at-arms in full harness went down and could not get up. Shakespeare fixed the date in English memory as 25 October, which is the Julian date — the sky over that field belongs to 3 November, and the Moon over it was a last quarter.
