Your Sun sign, and where the Sun is today
In Western astrology, your Sun sign is the twelfth of the ecliptic the Sun was in when you were born. Here is what that means astronomically, and where the Sun is today.

Signs, not constellations
The tropical zodiac divides the Sun's yearly path into twelve signs of 30 degrees, counted from the March equinox. Those signs kept their names from constellations, but precession has slowly turned the sky, so the Sun is now usually in a different constellation from the sign of the same name (NASA).
Sidereal astrology, used in Indian jyotisha, counts the signs from the stars instead, by subtracting an offset called the ayanamsa. This site uses the Lahiri ayanamsa, the same convention as its birth chart. The page shows the Sun's place in both, worked out from the same position that times your sunrise.
What it is, and is not
A Sun sign is a symbolic tradition with a long history, set out in texts such as Ptolemy's Tetrabiblos. It is not a measurement of personality, and this site does not use it to predict anything about you.
Astrology and myth are presented here as symbolic and historical traditions, not as predictions. The sky's positions and times on this site are calculated the same way in every lens.
