Folklore #197
Folklore & calendar
A Hittite text describes the moon god falling from heaven and landing in a marketplace, terrifying everyone, and a goddess having to be talked into calming him down.
It is usually read as a ritual response to a lunar eclipse: the Moon vanishes, and a text exists to be recited about it. Arma is the Luwian name and it survives in personal names for centuries afterwards. Ritual texts for eclipses are one of the commonest things to find in a Bronze Age archive.
