The third mansion is the Pleiades, and its deity is Agni, fire. Its symbol is a blade. Tradition reads it as the cut that separates what is worth keeping.

The Krittikas are the six or seven nurses of the war god Kartikeya, which is why the cluster is counted as a group rather than a star. Its lord is the Sun. It is the one nakshatra almost anybody can find in the sky without help, and the only one whose name most Western readers already half-know.
