Local mean time
Also called LMT, LMT
Clock time set by the Sun's average position at a town's own longitude, used before standard time zones.
Before the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, most towns kept their own local time. The IANA database records local mean time for places before they adopted a standard zone, and this site uses it where the database does; for dates where a record is doubtful, a manual offset can be entered.
