Triplicity
Also called triplicity rulers
The planets that rule each element by day and by night: a minor essential dignity.
Ptolemy gave the fire signs the Sun by day and Jupiter by night, the earth signs Venus and the Moon, the air signs Saturn and Mercury, the water signs Mars (and, in Dorothean schemes, Venus and the Moon). The schemes differ in detail.
- Where sources differ
- Ptolemy's and Dorotheus's triplicity rulers differ, especially for water.
