A crescent, a star, and a handprint
On a rock overhang in Chaco Canyon somebody painted a crescent moon with a large star beside it, and at dawn that summer the sky over New Mexico looked exactly like that.
Chinese astronomers had recorded a guest star the day before — the supernova that left the Crab Nebula, bright enough to see in daylight. Run the sky back and the waning crescent sits about three degrees from it at dawn, horns turned the right way. Not everyone accepts the painting is a record of it, and the honest position is that the sky matches and the intent cannot be proved.
