The Loch Ness 'surgeon's photograph'

The most famous monster photograph ever taken was published under a first quarter moon, and was a toy submarine with a neck made of wood putty.

It held up for sixty years before one of the men involved confessed on his deathbed in 1994. The picture is still the image most people picture when they hear the word.
