A battle fought after the war ended

The Battle of New Orleans was fought two weeks after the treaty ending the war had been signed in Europe.

News took six weeks to cross the Atlantic. The victory made Andrew Jackson a national figure and eventually president, on the strength of a battle that changed nothing about the war's outcome.
