Waning Crescent, 23% lit
The San Francisco earthquake
The quake struck at 5:12am with a waning crescent still up in the pre-dawn sky.
The shaking lasted under a minute; the fires that followed burned for four days and did most of the damage. It is also the event that gave seismology the San Andreas Fault.
