The bottom of the sea, once

Two men spent twenty minutes at the deepest point in the ocean, having heard a window crack on the way down, and saw a flatfish.

The gauge read 37,800 feet; a later correction puts the Challenger Deep at about 10,916 metres. Nobody went back for fifty-two years, and there are still fewer people who have been to the bottom of the sea than have walked on the Moon.
