Shackleton's 800-mile open boat voyage
Six men set out across the Southern Ocean in a 22-foot lifeboat to fetch help for the 22 left behind.
The navigator got four sextant sightings in seventeen days of storm and hit South Georgia anyway. Everyone on the expedition survived, then they had to cross the island's unmapped mountains to reach the whaling station.
